Dr. Robert Brooks Talks Resilience in Kids

Hi Dr. Brooks!

You are a renowned clinical psychologist and author of a multitude of books on resilience. How do you define resilience and how can we build it in ourselves and our children?

You have written about the difference between recovery and resilience, specifically resilience to loss and trauma such as the violent death of a loved one, to maintain relatively stable healthy levels of psychological and physical functioning. I think suicide loss survivors are some of the most resilient people that I know. Can you expand on that idea?

You also talk a lot about tenacity for lifetime success. What are the hallmarks?

Lastly, you have written many books on raising resilient kids. Since the pandemic, we have seen a rise in stress, anxiety and depression in our children and teens. What tools can we offer them to become more resilient in a time of so much angst and worry?
